Supper on Friday night
Our first house guests to our new home in Cedar Falls came to spend Friday evening and Saturday with us. It was a great time for us to get together, laugh about the past, and watch our future play together. Since it was a 1:1 adult/child ratio, it was a busy 24 hours. After the kids went to bed on Friday night, we lit a bonfire and sat outside in the November cold until midnight staying warm by the fire. On Saturday, we went for a walk, Josh made a churrasco, and then we all went to the park. Vivi was very happy to show off her bedroom and to have some other little kids to play with. Having a little boy in the house was a rare treat, especially one with so much energy. He was all over the place and reminded me a lot of Vivi when she was younger! Brecken and Val were born four days apart so it's so much fun to see them together. The other great thing about our children is that they're all redheads!
Some things we learned:
1. Don't attempt to play a board game and expect to have small children entertain themselves. We gave that up and all went to the park.
2. An outdoor churrasco in Iowa in November is too cold. The meat cooks but it gets cold fast. Half the espeto is cold by the time it comes off the fire. I think we're retiring the churrasco pit until March.
3. Four children is a lot of work. It's best just to sit back and not expect to do too much except keep track of them.
4. We loved having guests over and are looking forward to having many, many more.
