I've told Vivi that when the leaves fall that means it's autumn. Now whenever she sees leaves falling she says, "Mama look! It’s autumn."
I’ve realize that my perception of time is heavily influenced by the seasons. When we lived in Horizontina, the seasons changed although the change was so faint I barely noticed the difference between spring, summer, or autumn. And for that matter, sometimes winter even seemed like summer (except for those weeks of 40 degree weather both outside and inside the house).
There were even times while living in Horizontina I would be confused as to what month it was. Partly because the seasons are opposite south of the equator, but also because it’s just so warm all the time. I’d be thinking, what a beautiful, July day it is. Wait, it’s not July, it’s September! I’m three months behind.
Now, we’ve been in Cedar Falls for three months. Horizontina and our time there seems so distant. And, I have no doubt in which season I am in. It is October. The leaves are falling. And soon it will be snowing. We might be blessed and have a few more warm days, but face it Jen, it’s not going to get much warmer until maybe March.
